PEWTER / COLONIAL SPOONS – Deep Bowl. SIX 17th Century European spoons, sometimes called “Puritan spoons” or “Colonial Spoons, ” are pewter soup / chowder spoons with round bowls and original pewter patina. These Spoons have a nearly round bowl with rat-tail supporting the bowl (intersection between handle and bowl), tapering to a hexagonal stem. Rat tail of spoon is single tail. This spoon is a style that was developed in the mid seventeenth century. Marked: Quality mark of Ore Angel Michael, a mark which first appeared in the 17th century. The mark is impressed on the front of each handle in the bowl. There is no maker’s mark. I was told that these spoons are most probably European. I don’t know the age of these spoons so will guess and put them at mid-18th century as they have developed quite a patina. They have the appearance of excavated spoons from the 17th century Netherlands, but they could also be old reproductions. I’m not an expert. Please look carefully at these photos. These are not returnable. Size: 6.75″ long, 2.25″ across bowl. Condition: Vintage very good. No damage, no restoration that is obvious. The spoons are slightly imperfect, due to the softness of pewter (it get’s bent out of shape easily). Photos are taken with and without flash to show details, some colors may vary slightly.
